My name is Joaquín Cortés. I am a Chilean Igneous petrologist/Geologist with interests on music, graphic (generative) art and coding. I have done research and teaching on all of these subjects in Chile, the UK and USA.

About
I was born in Santiago of Chile during the 20th Century. I went to school at Colegio de La Salle and then studied Geology and did my M.Sc. at the University of Chile. I then worked as staff geologist in the Chilean Geological Survey, which I finaly left at the turn of the new century. I went to England and did my Ph.D. in the School of Earth and the Environment at the University of Leeds in the subject of Igneous Petrology. I moved to the USA to become a geology professor in the Geology Department, at the University at Buffalo. During 2013, I left the USA and moved back to the UK, first as a visiting fellow of the School of Geosciences at the University of Edinburgh and as Lecturer in Geology at the now defunct School of Civil Engineering and Geosciences at Newcastle University. Currently I am a Senior Lecturer in Geology in the School of Geography at Edge Hills University.

Here, I am talking about mining in Chile and the ordeal of the San Jose miners in 2010
